Tyson Terrace Renovation

Support Our Students — Honor Our Leadership

There is an exciting project underway which will kick off our 175th anniversary celebration on August 31 as we become Mary Baldwin University. Tyson Terrace is undergoing a complete renovation to provide an updated and enhanced space for our students. The paving is being replaced, and the compass — a gift from the Class of 2016 — will be the centerpiece of a beautiful outdoor area featuring new furniture. The bronze compass is 30 inches in diameter and is inscribed with the Mary Baldwin seal highlighting the succession of names that have documented the evolution of our institution through the years. Also, the popular "pub" in the Pannill Student Center is being transformed into the University Café, where a full-service Starbucks and other upscale food items will be available at greatly expanded hours. It's getting a fresh look in addition to the new menu. There is no better way to begin this 175th anniversary year as Mary Baldwin University than to upgrade our support of our students and honor both our President Emeritus, Cynthia H. Tyson, as well as the leadership and class gift of 2016. Please show your support by making a gift now!

$25

Coffee Break

When students need a boost, they can pop over to the new Starbucks housed in the café. Nothing is better than friends enjoying stimulating conversation over a cup of java.

$50

Lunch Date

Once the renovation is complete, students will be able to meet at the café, grab lunch, and enjoy it indoors or out.

$150

Class on the Terrace

Tyson Terrace will have a whole new stone floor done in multi-colored pavers featuring a geometric design. New patio furniture will provide the perfect space for a small class to meet or for students to study while enjoying the beauty of upper campus.

$250

University Café Connoisseur

The pub will be renamed the University Café, offering students an updated dining option with extended service hours. Not only will busy students be able to enjoy meals on campus outside of the regular dining hall hours, but the menu will be updated to offer new tasty food items, and the interior will be completely redesigned to offer modern style and comfort.

$500

Compass Commitment

"Discover Your Place" was their freshman year theme, and at Commencement the Class of 2016 gave Mary Baldwin a 30-inch diameter compass inscribed with the university seal that will be installed in the center of Tyson Terrace. Your gift of $500 proves a strong commitment to Mary Baldwin and will go a long way in funding the Tyson Terrace renovation.
